Clippers Add a Defenseman


The Nanaimo Clippers have committed to defenseman Tyler Kunz for the upcoming season.

He's a 6'0  180lbs rearguard out of Whitecourt Alberta.

Nanaimo scouts saw his several times last season and Head Coach Mike Vandekamp believes Kunz has lots of upside.

Senior B Timbermen in Action


The Nanaimo Senior B Timbermen host Tri City Thursday.

Nanaimo has a 2-2 record heading in, while the Bandits are a perfect 3-0.

Game time is 7:30pm at the Nanaimo Ice Centre.

VI Baseball Institute Finishes Second at Nationals


The VI Baseball Institute finished second at the Nationals in Kamloops on the weekend.

They went 3-1 in the round robin and then beat the University of Calgary 7-1 in the Semifinal.

In Sunday's Final the Mariners lost 5-1 to the PBA Dawgs from Lethbridge.

VIBI was ranked 3rd heading into the tournament. 

Raiders QB Gets Rare CFL Camp Invite


VI Raiders quarterback Jordan Yantz has been invited to B.C. Lions rookie camp.

The Regina native impressed at an evaluation day last month, and got the call to join the team at camp.

Rookies report to camp in Kamloops on May 31st. Yantz will be one of 4 pivots in camp backing up the newly re signed Travis Lulay.

Double Dose of OT for Jr Tmen


The weekend was full of extra time, but the Nanaimo Jr. A Timbermen are still looking for their first win of the season.

On Saturday in Delta, the Tmen were out shot 57-28 by the Islanders, but still managed to come away with a 6-6 tie. 

On Sunday in Burnaby, the Jr's forced another overtime with a Ryan Nicks goal with :43 seconds left in regulation, but couldn't hang on, losing 13 -10 in the extra frame. Nanaimo travels to Poco on Sunday.

Pirates Split in North Delta


The Nanaimo Pirates earned a split of their two road games this weekend. In game one of the doubleheader, the premier league club lost 7-6 to North Delta.
In game two, Nanaimo picked up an 8-2 win. The Pirates are off now until the 27th when they travel to White Rock.
