NANAIMO – The Clippers broke a two game preseason losing streak with a 3-1 win over the Cowichan Valley Capitals.
Alex Morozoff scored the only goal in the first 40 minutes of the night as the Clippers Cooper Black and Cowichan goalie Evan May were both rock steady.
Jeremie Payant gave Nanaimo a 2-0 lead early in the third period, but after the Clippers couldn’t cash in on a long five on three power play a Roc Truman shorthanded goal seven minutes into the final frame put the game back on a knife edge.
Keighan Gerrie restored Nanaimo’s two goal lead just after the midway mark of the third and the Clippers blanketed the Capitals most of the rest of the game.
The shots finished 30-23 for Nanaimo with both teams going 0/5 on the man advantage.
The Clippers are now 2-2 in exhibition play as they prepare to wrap up the preseason with games against the Victoria Grizzlies Oct. 1 in Nanaimo and Oct. 2 in Colwood.
