NANAIMO — The union representing about 33,000 public service members in B.C. is stopping all their job action, following a return to the bargaining table with the province.
The announcement was made Tuesday, Aug. 30, where the BC General Employees Union (BCGEU) said they were ceasing job action as a sign of good faith as negotiations with the BC Public Service Agency (PSA) were restarted last Thursday.
Effective immediately, this ends the union’s overtime time ban, which was only in effect for a little over a week.
The statement said preparations are also underway to stand down picket lines at BC Liquor Distribution Branch locations across the province, which has caused significant disruptions to an already strained supply chain.
It also triggered widespread layoffs and other job losses as cannabis stores struggled to keep product on their shelves.
The BCGEU said both sides will continue to meet throughout the week with the hope they are able to finalize a tentative agreement.
