NANAIMO — An early morning fire destroyed a Bowen Rd. home, while three people inside escaped uninjured.
Nanaimo Fire Rescue crews were called to a home on Bowen Rd. at Latimer Rd. on Thursday, Dec. 29 at 3:15 a.m. where flames fully engulfed the home.
NFR assistant chief Stu Kenning said two people were upstairs and one person was on the bottom floor at the time.
“All people safely evacuated themselves before we got on scene. It was a defensive fire, we used our big ladder truck, it was quite spectacular looking, but it was a very defensive fire,” Kenning told NanaimoNewsNOW.
Power was cut-off to the home earlier in December, while Kenning noted there are indications the property was the source of a landlord-tenant dispute.
Kenning noted their crews were on scene for more than five hours prior to a follow-up examination expected to commence later in the day.
“It’s under investigation, we’re unable to determine the exact cause because we can’t get into the building because it’s quite dangerous with the roof half collapsed.”
