NANAIMO — It’s the final weekend for the Cedar Farmers Market, and they plan to finish off the year with their usual holiday flair.
The Cedar Farmers Market’s annual Christmas-themed event takes place on Sunday, Nov. 8, at the field behind the former Woodbank Elementary School at 1984 Woobank Rd., opening for seniors at 9:30 a.m., and open to the general public at 10 a.m., going until 2 p.m.
Executive director Kate Poirier said the Christmas Farmers Market is one of the largest in B.C, with at least 120 different businesses setting up shop.
“We bring in more artisans than our regular farmers market, and so we’ll also have new vendors that you wouldn’t see during the year. And then we have some businesses that only come for that one day, like we’ll have some local chocolate makers and other things. And Santa Claus will be on the stage for some free pictures as well.”
Santa will be there to take photos from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., with vendors offering a variety of goods, including locally sourced food, health and wellness booths, artists, crafters, and more.
Food trucks and live music will also be on-site, as well as free parking.
Poirier said one common comment they hear from visiting guests from across Canada and around the world is that their Cedar Farmers Market provides them with a ‘hometown’ feel.
“I think people really feel like they’re coming home when they come to visit for the first time. We see tourists that will show up from across Canada, from the U.S. as well, who tell us that…they feel welcome right away.”
More information can be found here on their website, cedarfarmersmarket.org.
During their 24-week summer season, which ended with their Halloween-themed market on Oct. 25, over 51,000 people came through their gates this year, similar to past years.
