NANAIMO – A number of teams in the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League is pressing pause on their season for one week.
Following a confirmed COVID-19 exposure at Dover Secondary School in Nanaimo, the league’s four north division teams have elected to postpone games scheduled between Nov. 12 and 14.
The Nanaimo Buccaneers were scheduled to play a home-and-home series against Campbell River, while Oceanside were due to play Comox Valley.
“The 4 North team Governors are taking this measure out of an abundance of caution and to do everything that they can to help slow the spread of COVID-19,” VIJHL president Simon Morgan said in a written statement.
Games in the league’s south division are proceeding as normal with Saanich, Victoria, Peninsula, Kerry Park and Westshore next playing beginning Nov. 15.
“No VIJHL player has tested positive for COVID-19 and this is a precautionary measure that will allow the VIJHL to monitor the situation and evaluate re-start activities when appropriate,” Morgan said.
The affected games will be rescheduled for a later date.
