NANAIMO — A quick trip to the store for a present has resulted in a significant windfall for a Lantzville woman.
Barbara Don purchased a scratch lotto ticket at Save-On-Foods on the Island Hwy. near Woodgrove Centre, at the same time she was purchasing a lottery ticket for her mother’s upcoming birthday.
Once scratched, it revealed she’d won $100,000 which she then had to confirm.
“I scanned it on my phone and stared at the screen thinking this can’t be real. I was in disbelief. I thought I was reading the whole ticket wrong,” Don said.
Don called her husband, who was out at the time, to share the good news.
She claimed her prize on Sep. 13.
Don celebrated the win by upgrading her mother’s birthday present from a lotto ticket to a nice, celebratory birthday dinner.
“I am happy picking up the dinner tabs for my friends and family with this special win,” Don added.
She plans to also use the money towards building her dream home.
