POWELL RIVER — A spirited contest between the Clippers and Kings ended 5-4 in Nanaimo’s favour.
It was the Kings who started well building up a 2-0 first period lead.
Soon after Jake Hewitt was assessed seven minutes in penalties plus a game misconduct.
Although Hewitt took the only penalties in an altercation with the Kings Caleb Parkhouse Powell River failed to score on the man advantage.
Nanaimo not only killed off the infractions but got a shorthanded goal from Sean Donaldson before the end of the first period.
Max Itagaki, Charles Tardif and Jeremie Payant talled in the middle frame to put the Clippers up 4-2 before the Kings evened the score with a pair of power play markers.
The game was tied 4-4 late when Tardif set up Austin Spiridakis for the game winner with just over a minute to play.
Nanaimo outshot the Kings 37-35 and finished 0/3 on the power play and 4/6 on the penalty kill.

Cooper Black recorded his 14th win of the season as the Clippers upped their record to 15-8.
Nanaimo is now 7-0 against the Kings with another three games remaining in their season series.
The Clippers return home on Dec. 12 for a 7 p.m. faceoff versus the Alberni Valley Bulldogs.
