QUALICUM BEACH — Pedestrian movement between a portion of Qualicum Beach and the community’s prized waterfront just got much easier.
The Town of Qualicum Beach announced the completion of the Rodway Trail project, featuring an engineered staircase from the end of Arbutus St. to Highway 19A near the Shady Rest Pub & Restaurant.
Approximately $100,000 of the $150,600 project to restore the trail on the steep embankment was covered by a provincial government grant awarded in June 2020.
“This trail will not only open up commuter connections for residents in west Qualicum Beach, but will also allow tourist and resident access to walking loops to various attractions and businesses,” a Town of Qualicum Beach news release stated.
The refurbished trail includes a new graded access point and stairs to link the upper plateau on Arbutus St. to the waterfront.
The Town noted supply chain and labour shortage issues impacted the the work which was completed within grant deadlines.
