LADYSMITH — An early morning traffic stop resulted in the rider reportedly hitting a curb and crashing on the Trans Canada Hwy.
The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) reports the incident occurred on Tuesday, Feb. 7 at 12:45 a.m. near Westdowne Rd.
A news release from the IIO stated police responded to a 911 call regarding a man reported to be waving at passing motorists and possibly in distress on the highway’s southbound lanes.
The IIO stated police attempted a traffic stop when the rider lost control of his bike.
The IIO will attempt to confirm what role the police may have had in contributing to the man’s injuries.
Police on scene provided medical assistance, while the injured rider was then taken to hospital for treatment, the IIO noted.
All cases of death and serious harm in the province where police are involved are automatically reviewed by the independent civilian police watchdog group.
