PORT ALBERNI — Aidan Campbell put on a goaltending clinic in the Clippers 3-1 loss to the Bulldogs.
Jake Hewitt gave the Clippers the lead 1:26 into the game and then Campbell kept Alberni shooters at bay for 50 minutes.
The Nanaimo veteran stopped 17 shots in the second period including a handful of highlight reel saves.
Nicholas Beneteau broke through Campbell’s armour midway through the final frame and Matthew Maltais scored on a power play rebound two minutes later.
An empty netter by David Sacco capped off the scoring on Family Day in front of a capacity crowd in Port Alberni.
The shots finished 44-25 for the Bulldogs with Hobie Hedquist getting the win in goal.
Nanaimo was 0/3 on the man advantage and 3/5 killing penalties.
In the seven game season series between the Clippers and Bulldogs Nanaimo finished with a 4-3 record.
Next up for the Clippers is a three game road trip in the lower mainland against Chilliwack, Langley and Coquitlam Feb. 24-26.
