NANAIMO — A man was taken to hospital after his vehicle unexpectedly rolled down his driveway and across the street where he was temporarily pinned.
Emergency crews responded to McGirr Rd. near Icarus Dr. on Thursday, June 29 at about 1:45 p.m. where Nanaimo Fire Rescue Cpt. Orphée Bernard said they helped free the man.
“Someone was just pinned by their own vehicle. The vehicle was sitting on his foot, so we just used our tools to get the vehicle off his foot.”
Bernard said his injuries appear to be minor, and he was alert and talkative when loaded into the ambulance and sent to the hospital.
Neighbours said the injured man drove up his driveway, but when he got out, the vehicle started rolling backwards.
The victim tried to stop his SUV from the outside, but it pushed him back across the street, eventually knocking him into some bushes while coming to a rest on his foot.
A neighbour’s parked car sustained minor damage, while the victim’s vehicle sustained some dents and scrapes.
The scene was cleared by 2:30 p.m.
