NANAIMO — It’s a number never before seen for Lotto 6/49, a jackpot of $66 million.
The record amount for the Gold Ball Jackpot draw is set to be on offer Saturday, Sept. 23 with a one in two chance of someone walking away with the life-changing amount.
Changes to the formal of the game in September 2022 saw 30 balls introduced into a separate draw, 29 white and one gold. Each week the gold ball remained in the draw, the jackpot grew by $2 million.
Just two balls remain, one white and one gold.
If a white ball is drawn Saturday, the winner will get $1 million and the jackpot will grow to a guaranteed $68 million on Wednesday, Sept. 27.
In addition to the largest jackpot on record for the game, a $5 million prize is up for grabs under the classic rules for Lotto 6/49.
Canada’s other main lottery, Lotto Max, has a maximum jackpot of $70 million plus additional $1 million prizes.
Nanaimo may be as good a place as any to purchase a ticket for Saturday’s draw.
The Harbour City is responsible for at least two dozen lotto winners, claiming prizes of $500,000 or more, since 2012.
