Join me every day around 4:20pm for the Daily Dee-straction!
We’ll cover something you didn’t know about OR something you did know about and are about to find out MORE about! If you missed it, here is this week’s round up!
Nov 27 – Geese Police!
Did you know…there are regions in China that rely on the loud and disruptive nature of geese to help police the streets. They’re said to be harder for criminals to neutralize than a dog which means they’ve deterred many criminals in recent years! They’re known for being extremely vigilant and brave, and apparently they have great hearing! The best part is that they have no idea that they’re employed to do this! Imagine if the geese you see around town are actually undercover cops trying to police the streets LOL!
Nov 28 – Ways to make a dollar
Did you know… there are 293 ways to make change for a dollar. I know you’re trying to think of all the ways in your mind right now, I certainly did when I found that out. What a great exercise to do with the kids if you’re bored one night. Also, maybe next time you’re asking a cashier for change, maybe be a bit more specific.
Nov 29 – Diverse voice
Did you know… Miss Piggy and Yoda have something in common? They were both voiced by the same person, puppeteer Frank Oz! He also voiced Bert, Cookie Monster, and Grover. Talk about range!
Nov 30 – Origins of X-mas
Did you know… where X-mas originated from? In Greek, the word for “Christ” starts with the letter Chi ( pronounced: HE), which looks like an X in the Roman alphabet. There is a common misconception that the word X-mas stems from a secularizing tendency to de-emphasize the religious tradition from Christmas, but Chi is just the first letter of the Greek word ‘Christós’. That’s why you’ll her Christina Aguilera be referred to as Xtina sometimes…
Dec 1 – Elf On the Shelf origins
Did you know… Elf on the Shelf originated from a self-published book? Believe it or not the whole phenomenon was the invention of a mom and daughter, Carol and Chanda. Their family had a tradition of using an elf to watch the kids, and they decided to write a book about it! When Chanda tried to get the book published unfortunately people turned it down so, she and her daughter published it themselves, and took it to craft fairs to sell. According to the book, its VERY important that each Elf has it’s own name, because that’s how they get their magic to fly to the North pole! The most popular name is, you guessed it… BUDDY!
