Dad, Husband, Rock
I never thought of having kids until I met my soon-to-be husband. We dated for 3 yrs and have been married for 17 yrs. We tried for about a year after marriage to become pregnant and were blessed with our daughter 5 days before Christmas in 2005. She was our world and Phil was hands on from Day 1. I think he changed more diapers and had more sleepless nights than I did. He was the master swaddler. And when our daughter was crying and crying and the doctor said "she's just colic" my husband did more research and discovered that by inclining her crib she wasn't in pain - she had severe acid reflux.
A year later my husband had to go on long-term disability for multiple mental health issues. I had just gone back to work, and the daycare wasn't what we'd hoped so our daughter got to stay home with Daddy. Certainly not the best way to be a "stay-at-home Dad" but we made the best of it. And she thrived...and he was mending.
Because of all the time our daughter has spent with her Dad, she is so empathetic, funny, witty and sassy. In all honesty, I'm a control freak and way more rigid. So I'm truly thankful for my husband. Now as a teen, they'll spend time in the garage together - her in her art studio and him in his workshop - talking music, best Nerf guns, Marvel vs DC and colour palettes.
I just love them!!
