Island Crisis Care Society is encouraging Nanaimo residents to bundle up and raise cold, hard cash for The Coldest Night of the Year (WALK).
A family-friendly winter fundraising event for Nanaimo's homeless, hungry and hurting, the WALK takes place on the evening of Saturday, February 25th. This is Island Crisis Care Society's 6th year taking part in the Coldest Night of the Year, and they're aiming to raise $40,000 for their work with the homeless.
The Nanaimo WALK begins and ends at John Barsby School (550 Seventh Street); where walkers will register, turn in results of their fundraising efforts, and return at the end of the evening for a warm celebration meal. Wear a blue toque, participate in either a 2km, 5 km, and/or 10km route, and will warm up with toasty drinks at rest stops along the way.
Registration starts at 4 p.m., and come prepared with donations, completed pledge form or "My Results Form" to match the cash/cheques, a signed waiver form, good walking shoes/boots, along with a warm coat & mitts. Following is an opening ceremony will happen and then, the walk begins at 5:15 p.m. After you can catch a warm, light meal (between 6 and 8 p.m.)
