Maybe AI isn’t as big of a threat as we thought…
Expectations vs. Reality
Has it been ten minutes since I’ve whined about the robots? Well, behold! More whining.
I will never stop going on and on about how decades ago, we thought robots would be invented so we wouldn’t have to work anymore. We wouldn’t have to cook and clean and buy groceries and all that crap we hate doing so we could have time to make music and art and all the fun stuff we never have enough time to do.
And instead, we got the robots doing the fun stuff and we’re still at work? What a scam.
Well, this may be the big step back that we were hoping for.
Imagine this dude dropping the hottest mixtape of the 2020s.
Maybe you’ve heard of the AI popstar Anna Indiana.
Maybe you haven’t.
She isn’t a real person.
Her face is AI generated, her voice is AI generated, and her music is AI generated. And her…owners? Producers? Partners? Either way, they finally dropped her first new single called “Betrayed by this Town”.
Everybody was expecting it to be this eerily accurate rendition of your run-of-the-mill Top 40 hit, but when people listened to it…
They realized…
“Oh my god, this is awful.”
It’s genuinely unlistenable. It sounds like a robot trying to make music. Which is exactly what it is, I suppose. But still, isn’t it supposed to resemble a human and not Kitt from Knight Rider or HAL from 2001 with a lady voice? It’s weird.
“Like…bzzt…comment…bzzt…subscribe…bzzt…and share…”
So hey, don’t you worry.
It looks like we’re at least safe for the rest of the 2020s.
2032 however may be the year where I’d rather listen to a robot than the newest hit.
Thanks for reading, love you lots, and as always,
– Erik
